2028 Olympics: IGF Optimistic on event mixed in Los Angeles

The officials who press pressure for Golf to include a mixed competition at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics are “optimistic” that the proposal will be accepted by the International Olympic Committee.
An meeting on Monday will listen to the presentation of the Golf to include a two -day mixed event, which would be staged between the individual male and female tournaments.
The return of golf to the games was judged to be an overwhelming success. Justin Rose won the male gold for Great Britain in Rio in 2016 in the first Olympic golf tournament for 112 years.
In Paris last year, the world number one Scottie Scheffler torn an electrifying victory in the male event, while Lydia Ko of New Zealand has claimed the female title to complete a personal set of gold, silver and bronze medals.
But critics said that sport was missing a trick by not having a combined competition of mixed teams.
The International Golf Federation (IGF) has reported its desire to add an event in which a couple from each in competition is challenged in a two -day tournament to be held in the gap between the individual 60 players tournaments.
“We are one of the many presentations, but we are listening to very positive things and support from La28, and also a strong support of the broadcasters of rights that hold broadcasters such as the NBC for us to have that event,” said IGF executive director Antony Scolon.
“We hope that, with that support, the presentation will be seen in the right light next Monday.
“I have been optimistic all the time. I don’t want to waste anyone time.
“He has a fantastic merit, in particular to get out of Paris and the great support we received from all athletes, males and females.”
Ko and Shane Lowry, who brought the Irish flag to the Paris opening ceremony, are among the players who support the offer.
“It is very convincing for the reason why we should be part of the program,” said Scanlon.
“Also beyond the social and sporting aspect, there is also the financial aspect: two more days in Los Angeles with minimal operational expenses and a large rise in terms of ticket office and entry from the goods etc.”
