Genetic doping: racing horses that will be tested by the British Horse Authority

The Bha supported scientific research at Fordham LGC Laboratory, near Newmarket – with Input of the Center for Racehorse Studies – which developed the ability to identify where gene doping occurred.
The tests will be incorporated immediately in the Bha and sampling routine sampling processes.
“The tests for gene doping are a significant step forward for British races and strengthens our commitment to safeguard the well -being of our horses, protecting the thoroughbred race and the integrity of our competition,” said Brant Dunshea, CEO of the Bha.
“Scientific and technological progress means that genetic manipulation represents a very real risk for horses’ races and the essence of the thoroughbred race.
“It is essential that we are proactive in this space and, through investments in this cutting -edge research, now we have the technological skills to detect and discourage any attempts to exploit harmful techniques that could give horses an unfair advantage.”
