I earn a lot, but I can’t stop comparing myself with others. What should I do?



The goal here is to try to bring attention to your life. Part of the reason why you could continually move the goals of the objectives is because your goals are set with an external focus. You are trying to compete, measure yourself, get external validation, but since there will probably always be someone who has the most wealth of you, it will never seem enough to you.

It doesn’t matter as much as you reach, if you are operating from a place of never enough, then your internal experience of your financial position will not be of wealth, but lack.

Continue to fight more, not because where you are not good enough, but rather to experience all your ability.

So if you have to feel happy with your life (as a whole, including your financial position) as it is, what is the perspective or belief that you should have?

Currently you have a belief that could go to something similar: I will not feel I feel X (success, happy, quite good, etc.) until I have y (whatever your current financial goal). But what is the belief that someone should have, to feel fantastic with their life As it is, just now … even when they are standing next to someone who has more financial success?

So then this asks the question: if I am happy with what I have now, why continue? How would I motivate myself to grow, if it were not for dissatisfaction with my current position?

There is a difference between extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. The extrinsic motivation is focused externally: these are prizes, praise or negative consequences such as the punishment you could get.

Being extrinsically motivated seems to want to achieve a goal so that someone will think, hear or act in a certain way towards you, or you will get a little external reward for this. It can be effective in the short term. However, it can be exhausting and unsatisfactory long -term.

The intrinsic motivation concerns more you and your intrinsic fun, satisfaction or fulfillment from making progress towards your goals. Do you know that feeling of realization when you do something you didn’t think you could do? That feeling (and not the result itself) is the reward. This is a more satisfying and sustainable form of motivation because its long term.

So, it is not necessary to lose motivation, but you have the opportunity to move it. You can be happy where you are now, and still enthusiastic to continue growing, not for what someone else will think or say about you, but to see what you are able to achieve.

This allows you to continue to fight more, not because where you are it is not good enough or because you feel like you were behind, but rather to experience the full extension of your ability and see what is possible for your life.

Doesn’t it seem much more fun than chasing an arbitrary external point of reference that continues to change every time you reach it?
