The 19 year old Czech Jakub Menšík beat his childhood idol Novak Djokovic 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) in a disturbance for the centuries of Sunday, claiming his first ATP title at Miami Open while denied the former number one in his offer for a 100th milestone.
The 54th Menšík faced difficult probability only in his second ATP final, but he exploited his best weapon to submit the main winner of 24 times with 14 axes.
37 -year -old Djokovic had hoped to join Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103) as the only men in the open era with 100 or more career titles but could not match the adolescent speed and creative game.
The game started hours after it was scheduled after repeated rain delays forced a long suspension of the game of the women’s double championship at the beginning of the day.
