Bree Masters reveals the toll of the Paris Olympics and a key message for the athletes of the Brisbane 2032 Olympics

This time last year, Bree Rizzo heard his fantastic Olympic games slip away after having woke up suddenly and feeling “sick as a dog”.

A health lighthouse for almost a year, Queensland sprinter felt in peace heading towards the finals of the Australian athletics championships. His offer in Paris was taking shape, until he was.

“I don’t know if it was Covid or a really bad influence, I felt absolutely horrible,” says Rizzo (Née Masters).

“There was no time when I was about to go out, I just thought I could do it if I am sick or not. I knew that the qualification depended on this.

“I needed to arrive the first three and I arrived fifth. I felt so depleted, I felt like if I were in a dream you are trying to run away from someone but literally you can’t run.

“I had nothing left in me, and I sat on the sidelines and I tried to hold back the tears. It was then that I thought about myself that it was over.”

After that setback cost his key qualifying points and a place in the Oceania team, Rizzo embarked on an arduous journey to reach the games.

He laughs at “How Psychotic I Got” going “Full Excel Nerd”, creating a spreadsheet that traces the rankings of its competitors.

Following the races in Japan, Figi and Bahamas, among other nations, decided to take a risk. He waited, staying at home to train while others all over the world competed.

The result: become the first Australian woman in 24 years to create 100 meters semi -finals of the Olympics.

“It was the most stressful period ever. This result in Paris made him much more rewarding because the journey I had to cross to get there was so difficult and mentally frustrating, but I would not change it.”

Rizzo is now determined to reach the games of Los Angeles 2028, his crusade bringing again to the national championships, starting from April 10.

While he has already won the Maurie Plant Meet in Melbourne and the Sir Graeme Douglas International (with a better personal time of 11.23) in Auckland this year, the financing of his Exploit is a struggle.

Limited funding for athletes means that often pays your way for international competitions by balanced full -time work around their training.

Medical needs are also a factor, with the Australian sports foundation that reports that 46 % of elite athletes over 18 earn less than $ 23,000 per year.

Rizzo’s work in marketing has contributed to compensating for these costs as he used his skills to improve his presence on social media and generate sponsors.

It boasts a sequel to Instagram of 278,000 and believes that media formation should take into account the planning of Brisbane 2032.

“He brought many entrances and opportunities. I find myself doing many business panels or panels and I take advantage of these things,” says Rizzo.

“There was a time when I was really afraid to do those things, but I feel like more I put myself out there and I just went and I did it, the more I grew up.

“Being consistent, showing the intuitions of what I do – cute and not so cute – and being super transparent has really helped.

“It is so useful for athletes to build their personal brand and help them finance alone. It’s all enthusiastic in the Olympic year, everyone knows who you are, but trying to continue is always extremely difficult.”

According to the Rick Burton sports marketing expert, an online presence will determine who will become competitive in the accumulation of Brisbane 2032.

The Chief Marketing Officer of the International Olympic Committee for Beijing Games says they finance their training, athletes must master the digital space and adapt as popular platforms change.

“Growing up, we could have raised athletes, but we didn’t consider them as a media centers. Now Lebron James takes a shower and we are interested,” says Burton.

“The fan continues to tell us that they want to get closer to action. As athletes acquire more familiarity with how to tell their story – their training, what they are eating, the advice for sleeping – the best will have an audience all over the world.”

The ambitions of rizzo off track also presented a discouraging act of juggling.

The thirty -year -old married his longtime partner Matthew Rizzo in November and the couple intends to start a family in the coming years.

But Rizzo is adamant that after doing it, he will make a triumphant return.

“I saw all these incredible females in Australia go away and have a family. I am intrigued to see which these superpowers that women support,” he says.

“See Shelly-Ann Fraser-Prony-Non I can compare myself to that type of caliber-but has returned even faster after having a child, as well as many other women.

“I still have that record, and going to Paris and reaching what I really turned on even more.”
