The liberal train minister of the train supports the block of the Québécois block Alexis Brunelle-Ducept
The former liberal and expert in internationally renowned human rights, Irwin Cotler, states that the candidate of the Quécois block candidate Alexis Brunelle-Dupers deserves support for these elections, regardless of his political affiliation.
On Friday, in a post on social media that approves the parliamentarian in office, Cotler said that Brunelle-Dancepe was “an exceptional member of Parliament, a prominent voice for the fight for human rights at national and international level and one who works through the party lines in search of the common good.
“His candidacy deserves our support, regardless of political affiliation,” said Cotler.
Cotler was Minister of Justice under the former Prime Minister Paul Martin. In 2020, he was appointed how The special correspondent for Canada on the conservation of the memory of the Holocaust and the fight against anti -Semitism.
Brunelle-Duceppe was elected for the first time in the Lac-Saint-Jean guide in 2019 and won his second race in 2021. Before the Parliament was dissolved at the end of March, Brunelle-Dukes was the citizenship of the blockade and the immigration critic.
On social media, Brunelle-Duceppe said in French that Cotler’s approval “he warms me”.
The two men share some history. In November 2024, Cotler was informed by the Armp that the police had foiled an Iranian conspiracy to kill him. The former liberal minister told Radio-Canada at the time he had been protected for over a year.
After the news came out, Brunelle-Dukes told the Chamber of Municipalities that his party will never accept that someone’s life should be in danger for their opinions.
“We condemn the death threats against Cotler without reservations and condemn the growing temptation of foreign powers to commit political murders on Canadian soil and Quebec,” said Brunelle-Dancepe last November. “Mr. Cotler, you’re not alone.”
Brunelle-Duceppe, son of the former leader of the Gilles Duceppe block, also introduced a motion to the Chamber asking all parliamentarians to condemn the death threats against Cotler and recognize his work to promote human rights. The motion was accepted by unanimous consent.
