A1 Crash: five in hospital after several police cars involved the closing of Newcastle Road
A great accident involving at least four police cars closed the A1leading to long delays on the main road.
The collision took place on the roadway in the north Neighbor DentonNewcastle, just before 2.30 on Wednesday.
The images of the scene show four marked seriously damaged police vehicles, a car on its side and debris scattered through the roadway in the north. One of the police cars had the roof torn.
Crash investigators were sent to the camp scene.
National motorways said that the A1 will be closed in both directions between Swalwell, Gateshead and Denton on Wednesday afternoon.
The agency He said: “A collision with several vehicles that led to serious injuries occurred at about 2.30 this morning.
“Due to the gravity of the collision a full Northumbria police An investigation is underway and they recommend that it will be prolonged.
“The road should remain closed in both directions on the afternoon of Wednesday 9 April.”
A Northumbria police The spokesman said: “Just before 2.30 today we received a report of a multi-verician collision on the A1 in the north direction near the Derwenthaugh Road Junction, Gateshead.
“There are currently emergency services.
“A section of the road is closed in both directions: there are diversions from the Derwenthaugh Road Junction in the north direction and from the A69 roundabout in a south direction. Motorists should use alternative alternative routes where possible.”
