Adam Wharton: Crystal Palace midfielder on video on social media

When Wharton was selected for the Euro 2024 team of England, the manager Gareth Southgate said that the midfielder was the type of player that the three lions had lost “for seven or eight years” and praised his game forward.
“(It is) just like football to football,” says Wharton. “When I was younger I played like more than 10 – more than a striker’s midfielder – so I probably know how to play that position.
“But if I have the ball and the attacker it is an option, then I will pass to him because it is what marks the goals.
“If I can spend it forward to a player who can be effective, score goals, create possibilities, get assist, I don’t see why I shouldn’t go to them.
“I am not going to dribble five people and put it at the top, it’s not just my game.”
The former Blackburn Rovers player was in the Under 21 England team for the recent international break, but trained with the Senior team under the manager of the New England Thomas Tuchel, who was a frequent visitor to Selhurst Park to watch Palace.
“It is obviously nice to be involved in the Senior team. It’s nice to try to leave an impression and train with the best players in the world,” says Wharton.
“He (Tuchel) was talking to me more generally, just how he returned from an injury and things like that. It was nice to be there, but now I am only focusing on playing more games and helping the team.”
