The chase of Alex Ovechkin has reached the Final Four.
The Washington Capitils wing marked the career goal n. 891 Tuesday against the Boston Bruins, putting him away from four NHL career records by Wayne Gretzky of 894 with eight other remaining games in the regular season.

At this point, as it seems shocking, ovechkin who was not short before the end of the season would be a surprise. In fact, four goals in eight games would represent a step back compared to his production rate this season. In 58 games, he marked at a rhythm of 53 goals. His actual total of 38 is lower, thanks to a fractured fibula that cost him 17 games in November and December.
Since he returned to training on December 28th, with a minimum space for errors, Ovechkin has avoided the type of collapse that would have started in pursuit in October. Only once in that period did more than two games without finding the goal and the goal against Boston was his third in four games.
At the beginning of the game, based on the planned score of Ovechkin, his teammates and his opponents, Atletico gave him a possibility of 45.8 percent to beat the record this season.
The caps started the night three points behind Winnipeg in the president’s trophy race and, despite a recent mini-skid, they have a firm grip on the highest seed of the Eastern Conference. Washington’s next match is Wednesday against Carolina Hurricanes, their closest competition in the metropolitan division and a team against which Ovechkin has historically been very successful (51 goals in 91 career matches).
In his last game against the hurricanes on November 3, Ovechkin scored n. 860, giving him a personal series of goals to three games against the appetizer of the Carolina Pyotr Kochetkov. On Friday, caps face the Blackhawks, which have allowed three or more goals in each of the last 13 games and remain one of the worst teams of the NHL.
From there, the capital started against the islanders, the hurricanes, a house and house against the Blue Jackets (including the home finale) and the Icelanders before ending their regular season in Pittsburgh on April 17th.
