Ovechkin came into play by needing two to bind and three to become the new king of the goal. He lit the lamp just four minutes in the game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Just over five minutes from the third period, the capital participated in a game of power and Ovechkin took advantage, taking a ride and crogging it beyond the goalkeeper Spencer Knight.
Capitali players stormed the ice while Ovechkin got a long and long ovation.
Gretzky was present for the game, which had remained even more than 13 minutes at the time of publication.
Ovechkin was enrolled with Washington’s first overall choice in 2004, but due to a block, his debut was postponed a year.
In his 20th NHL season, the record goal was the 41st of the year of Ovechkin, who is in third place in the NHL behind only Leon Draisaitl and William Nylander.

Alex Ovechkin contrasts: when will he break the Wayne Gretzky score record?
This is the 14th season in which Ovechkin scored 40 goals in his career. If the championship had not had a blockage in 2012-13, he would probably have 15 of those seasons. Even if he led the championship that year with 32 goals. He led the NHL in goal nine times.
What is even more impressive is that Ovechkin has lost almost two months of this season with a broken leg.
Ovechkin seemed to slow down a little last season, scoring 31 goals in 79 games. Maybe he had some juice, knowing he could beat the record this season.
While Ovechkin is beating records, the capital are contenders for the Stanley Cup. Their 105 points are classified in second place in the NHL.

Even if you remove all 894 of Gretzky’s goals, it still has the greatest number of points in the history of the NHL.
