Amsterdam stabbed – Last: five people injured and suspect in hospital after knife attack near Dam Square

A man stabbed five people and was arrested near Central Dam Square in Amsterdam on Thursday, confirmed the Dutch police.

The police had previously put the number of victims to four.

They said they had no more information on their condition.

After the attack, the suspicion was arrested with the help of the bystanders.

He was then taken to the hospital with a leg injury, reported the Dutch media.

According to the media and local witnesses, the stabbing took place in several positions near Dam Square.

According to reports, another woman was stabbed closer to the square on Gravenstraat, before suspicion was arrested on Nieuwendijk.

A staff member in a shop near the attack said a lady ran to the shop for safety in the middle of the attack.

Louis H, who works on top bike tour, said to The Independent: “It is lucky that we are all safe. At only 20-30 meters from here, apparently a person started attacking some other people with a knife.

“A lady on the street saw the attack by happening and actually ran to our shop, obviously all panic. So we closed the door quickly, locked it and went above to calm her, calm down, drink something and see what was going on.

“Then we saw that some people were lying on the ground and fortunately the police were there almost that second … they were very fast and fortunately they were helping. (For) these people here who were stabbed, fortunately they didn’t seem lethal.

“Apparently the boy went to Piazza della Diga just beyond our shop and stabbed more people.

“Fortunately we are all safe and the people have been cured here.”

The Dutch police are currently organizing a press conference, they have reported the local media.
