Apple was on brink of crisis before Trump granted tech concession

Such a turn would be difficult to make without hitches, above all because the company is already approaching the production of iPhone 17, which will be made mainly in China. Within the Apple operations, the financial and marketing departments, the fears had grown on the impact on the launch of new phones by this year and had fueled a sense of terror.

The company, in a few months, should have achieved the Herculean task of moving more production of iPhone 17 to India or elsewhere. It probably should have increased prices – something that is still possible – and fought with suppliers for better margins. And Apple’s famous marketing engine should have convinced consumers who earned it.

But the feeling of uncertainty remains. It is likely that the policies of the White House move again and Apple may need to pursue more dramatic changes. At least for now, however, management is breathing a sigh of relief.

But another concern remains: if Apple moves even more production from China to a quick pace, how would the country take off? Apple generates about 17 % of its entrances from China and manages dozens of shops, making it an outlier among the companies based in the United States. A spokesman for Apple refused to comment.

China has started requests for competition on American companies and could create problems for Apple through its customs process. In recent years, the iPhones has also prohibited, among other devices designed by the United States, by its legion of government operators. The iPhone is the largest Apple money manufacturer and about 87 % of them are produced in China, according to Morgan Stanley’s estimates. About four out of five iPads are also made in the country, together with 60 % of Macs.

The company generates about 38 % of its iPad sales in the United States, as well as about half of its Mac, Apple Watch and AirPods Revenue, Morgan Stanley estimate.

A complete division with China – Apple’s production hub for decades – would be improbable -. Although Trump has prompted Apple to produce iPhone in the United States, the lack of domestic engineering and manufacturing talents will make it almost impossible in the short term.

The size and scale of the structures in China make it unparalleled in speed and efficiency. Chinese production is also crucial for Apple sales in the world beyond the United States. The company based in Cupertino, California, obtains almost 60 % of its entrances outside the Americas.

From Trump announced a wave of rates on April 2ndApple lobbyists and other technological companies pushed the White House for exemptions.

But the discussions took further urgency last week after a series of tit-per-tat retaliation between Washington and Beijing led to what amounted to 145 % to duties on imports from China.

The potential impact was even more clear after Trump paused higher rates on other countries. This meant that Apple Samsung’s rival, who makes his phones out of China, would have had an advantage.

Apple and other companies have underlined the Trump administration which, although they are willing to increase investments in the United States, there are few benefits in moving the final assembly to the country. Instead, they supported, the United States should focus on reporting higher value jobs and encouraging investments in things such as semiconductor production.
