Archie Vaughan on Rocky Flintoff Friendship, the legacy of his father and forging his path
Having spent most of his youth concentrated on the joke, Vaughan’s success with the ball was somehow unexpected, the highlight was a number of games of 11-140 against any winners of the County Surrey championship last September.
Vaughan then began 2025 taking 6-19 in the youth test against South Africa, which England Under-19 won by 10 wickets.
Those are remarkable companies considering that he turned to bowling spin from boredom during the Covid-19 block, having only a bowling seam previously.
“He certainly surprised me,” said Vaughan.
“I would probably say that I am more a batter, but I will continue to work hard in both and it is only a matter of managing my expectations.
“I haven’t been bowling for a long time, I started it correctly in my back on the back during the block – while I beat all the time I can remember.”
Vaughan accepts that his family gave him a “great opportunity” to attend the Millfield School and pursue his dream as a cricket, but he is extremely pushed to exploit him in the best way.
While he is not attracted to comparisons with his father’s joke and captain, Vaughan is safe elsewhere.
“I am quite sure I am an off -road vehicle better than him,” he added. “And I’m certainly a better defender.”
Much has changed over 20 years by one of the largest series of cricket tests. But with a Vaughan and a flintoff that emerges as two of the most exciting talents in the country, it seems that a fully -fulfilled moment is upon us.
