Autoworkers Union Chief Gives Trump’s Tariffs a Mixed Review
The head of the united automotive workers expressed a partial support on Thursday for the Trump administration rates, stating that targeted duties in other countries could help report some manufacturing jobs in the United States.
But the president of the union, Shawn Fain, described global rates through the edge of President Trump as “reckless”. In an address to the UAW members who was streamed on YouTube and other social media, he also strongly criticized the administration for shooting the federal workers and cutting the key government agencies and accused him of violating the civil rights of students and others.
“We support the use of some rates on automotive production and similar sectors. We do not support the tariffs for political games on immigration or on the Fenstanil,” said Fain. “We do not support reckless rates on all countries at crazy rates”.

He added that he did not agree with “90 percent of what the Trump administration is doing”, in particular the cuts at the National Institutes of Health who interrupted cancer research and other diseases.
“We have seen the destruction of the bargaining rights for one million federal workers. We saw an attack on the National Labor Relations Board and the illegal dismissal of a member of the Council,” he said. “We have seen attacks on social security and medicate and medicaid, programs that millions in the working class according to.”
Mr. Fain did not mention Elon Musk, who as a councilor of Trump conducted efforts to shoot tens of thousands of federal workers and to make profound cuts to agencies including the Department of Public Education and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Musk, CEO of Tesla, has strongly opposed the UAW efforts to organize Tesla’s workers in the United States.
