‘Basic Instinct,’ Swat ‘Star Denis Arndt died at 86
Denis Arndt, the actor named at Tony Award whose numerous roles on the screen included recited in “Swat” and notoriously Questioning Sharon Stone In “Basic Instinct” he died. He was 86 years old.
Arndt died “peacefully in his bed” in his long -standing Ashland home, Oregon, Tuesday, announced his family in a obituary Posted Wednesday.
“In his own way, Dad lived his life as a full and generous performance, known for his incredible wit, charm, rebellious spirit, irreverence, sense of humor, grilling and passion for his art”, wrote the Arndt family.
“His inheritance, both inside and outside the stage, will live in the heart of family members, friends and members of the community”, they continued. “He was fascinating, beautiful, present at the moment, spontaneous and magnetic – a true Renaissance man.”

Arndt was born in Issaquah, Washington on February 23, 1939 – that his family noticed was the same year in which the classic film “The Wizard of Oz” was published and opened the use of Technicolor in cinema.

“It was like dad’s life,” his family wrote. “It started in black and white and blossomed in a life of color, brilliance, bold adventure and passion.”
Arndt served as a pilot of American army helicopters in the Vietnam War and was assigned his purple heart twice. After leaving the military, Arndt made helicopters fly to Alaska before moving to Seattle, where he launched his career as an actor after a friend convinced him to make the hearing in a local theater.
“Of course, Dad got the main role,” his family wrote. “And it was brilliant. He brought his brilliance, passion and dedication in his second career as an actor, both on stage and on the screen.”
Arndt’s family noticed that “he spent multiple seasons at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival” in Ashland before embarking on a career in Hollywood.

The actor made his debut on the screen in the 1974 television film “Runaway on Rogue River” and his first television career included the guest apparitions in “The Wonder Years”, “Murder, he wrote” and “Life Going”.
Arndt interpreted her husband of Mary Tyler Moore’s The owner of the TV series “Annie McGuire” from 1988 to 1989. From 1990 to 1991, he played a recurring role in “La Law” by David E. Kelly. Kelley later would have launched Arndt in some other legal dramas including “Pics Fences”, “Ally McBeal”, “The Practice” and “Boston Legal”.

One of the first film roles of Arndt was in the 1992 erotic thriller “Basic Instinct”. He played Lieutenant Phillip Walker, one of the investigators who asked the character of Sharon Stone Catherine Tramell in one of the most iconic scenes in the film.

“How to Making a American Quilt” and the “undisputed” sports drama appeared in the 1995 drama.
In 2003, Arandt starred as Sgt. Howard in “Swat”, the film -based thriller film based on the 70s series with the same name.

In addition to his apparitions in Kelley’s television shows, the subsequent Arndt television works included guests in guests in “Grey’s Anatomy,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, “has disappeared”, “Supernatural” and “The Good Fight”.

The latest work on the Arndt screen included an apparition for the 2018 guests on the “How To Get Away With Murder” TV show and a role in the short film of 2023 “The Do-Over”.

In his obituary, Arndt’s family wrote that “he reached the peak of his career” when he received a Tony Award Appointment for his performance in the “Heisenberg” Broadway game in 2017.
Arndt’s family noticed that they would organize a private funeral for the actor, adding “instead of the flowers, he would ask you to go and take his life for the balls and follow your passion”.

“While the last curtain falls, we greet our father, knowing that he gained a standing ovation for the extraordinary life he led,” concluded the obituary.

Arandt survived his 45 -year -old wife, Magee Downey, his seven children and “many grandchildren, pronights and prones” and his nephew.
