Brad Stevens expects the transition of “commercial property as usual”

While the Boston Celtics go from one group owned to another, Brad Stevens suggested Wednesday who does not expect many changes to how his front office works.

A group led by Bill Chisholm He reached an agreement last week to purchase the franchising from Wyc Grousbeck and Boston Basketball Partners, LLC. Although Grousbeck should remain on as CEO and governor throughout the 2027-28 season, the Chisholm group will take over as majority owners this summer if the initial sale of $ 6.1 billion is approved.

“I never gave my two cents (during the sales process) because it is not my role,” said Stevens while I turned to a small group of journalists at the Celtics shooting in Phoenix. “It is their right and everything else to sell the team and make the decision they have made. My only thing is just asking to be kept around for everything I have to know from the point of view to make decisions here and now and move forward.

“While we spend more time with Bill – with Wyc and Bill – then we will have more clarity on how we will do things. But really, every indication is practically business as usual, so I’m enthusiastic about this. But again, you spend a lot of money on these things, so you have every right to enter and put the stamp on it as you want, so I can’t wait to work with him.”

Less than a week after the Chisholm group won the offers to take the franchise, Stevens has not yet had many communications with the owner of the Celtics coming. Stevens said he met Chisholm for the first time a couple of weeks ago when the finalists of the potential new ownership groups visited Boston’s brass. At that time, Stevens said he met each of the finalists for one or two hours each. Chisholm’s appreciation for the Celtics came across quickly. The native of Georgetown, in Massachusetts, describes itself as a fan for the whole life of the team.

“Each group had different versions of what were most interested,” said Stevens. “And it was really clear how much the Celtics love and how much it means for him. And it’s really nice.”

After the Chisholm group reached an agreement for the purchase of the Celtics, Stevens said he and Chisholm spoke on the phone once. They spent time together with Sacramento on Monday when Chisholm and his wife, Kimberly, participated in the victory of the Celtics against the kings. Chisholm should also visit Boston next week after the Celtics return from their journey of the Western Conference.

Although it is still in the initial stages of the construction of a relationship with Chisholm, Stevens said he can’t wait to work more with his new boss.

“Everyone must only be themselves, right, and bring her their authenticity,” said Stevens. “When you buy a team and when you are invested in that way, then it will bring great ideas. We will operate and perform plans that in the end wants it. I was really impressed by how busy learning more about how we did things, both the part of the business and the basketball work. After learning in June that the Celtics would be put on sale, Stevens said he had initially thought of all the people who work under him in basketball operations. The franchise has been owned by the same group since 2002, a decade before the team hired Stevens as head coach.
