British holiday hotspot Lanzarote Hit from sudden floods after months of rain falls in hours

Rain serious rain unleashed floods in a popular Spanish holiday hotspotpushing the government to declare a state of emergency.

The cities of Costa Teguise, San Bartolome and Arrivali were more affected, according to local authorities. The mayor of Arrecife requested the government To declare the city a disaster area.

The government of the Canary Islands closed the state of emergency in Lanzarote – declared on Saturday – at 7 on Sunday.
“After the end of the floods caused by the rain on April 12 in the municipalities of Arrecife, Teguise and San Bartolomé on the island of Lanzarote, the emergency situation of the island ended,” he said in an update.
The authorities confirmed that no injuries have been reported.
It will arrive as devastating news for British holidaymakers who intend to get by for the Easter holidays.

The United Kingdom Foreign Office has issued a new travel warning for Lanzarote Sunday, which says: “Strong rains and floods in Lanzarote occurred today with Costa Teguise, San Bartolomé and particularly affected.
“Services throughout the island are interested. Some hotels are currently without energy. Some roads are currently affected by the mud.
“If you are in Lanzarote or travel to Lanzarote, follow the Council of Local Authorities and monitors local weather updates.”
