Can Crystal Palace transform a series of record results into silverware?

Crystal Palace returns to Craven Cottage on Saturday with an eye to the creation of history.

If they exceed Fulham in their draw by quarter of the FA Cup, they will reach the semifinals of the competition for the fifth time in their history, where they progressed twice in the final (in 1990 and 2016) only to lose both times against Manchester United. There will be an eye to the potential prize to raise the great silverware for the first time in the history of the club.

And the palace, which is in imperus form, will feel optimistic about their possibility of progressing at least at Wembley. They have already won at Craven Cottage this season: a 2-0 victory over Fulham on February 22nd.

In this way, they recorded a next fifth away from home in all competitions, all with the same score 2-0. No team has ever won five consecutive matches away with a 2-0-o score, in fact, with an identical-to-instance score of the Football League in 1888, with Palace that establishes a new record.

Their metronomic successes arrived against Doncaster Rovers in the fourth round of the FA Cup and Manchester United, West Ham United and Leicester City in the Premier League – a race that dates back to January 15th. That historical victory against Fulham and any potential repetition on Saturday offers the opportunity to reflect on what has been a peculiar season.

After eight games, they had equal their worst start in a season in the Premier LeagueOnly once before not being able to win a game at that time, he had scored the least number of goals in the division (five) and their most growing second in 16 campaigns.

Yet, on March 8, a 1-0 victory over the city of Ipswich in their last game of the Premier League, made a series of 10 uninterrupted games in which Palace marked a goal. Do it against Southampton on Tuesday evening and they will do it equal to their best seat in the Premier League in 11 consecutive gamesset between January and March 2019.

Now they have won 10 of their last 13 games in all competitions, although this includes three wins of the England Cup compared to the opposition of the League lower than Millwall, Doncaster and Stockport County. They are unbeaten in nine away matches of the Premier League-a Club-Conte race their last defeat arriving in October against Nottingham Forest in the eighth match of the season.

It is a reflection of the exceptional form of Palace on the road, which supported their rebirth in the second half of the season, in stark contrast to the faster form in Selhurst Park, where they often fought. Yet they have only five points less (17) at home and two less wins (four) than go.

The numbers below Palace have been strong this season and their improvement is clear to see on the graph below. They are generating multiple non-planned objectives (XG) per game-city 1.5 compared to 1.2 in 2023-24-fertile are granting less opportunities for high value. Their difference in goal expected, an indicator of the quality of the team, is the strongest sixth in the championship.

But they have not regularly converted to scoring opportunities. No team has marked less goal than the quality of the possibilities they have created this season with Palace out of 34 goals not in penalty from an expected value of 42.6. It is one of the few failures of 2024-25.

Glasner was subjected to an increase in control following those struggles at the beginning of the season, which repeatedly put on the late arrival of new purchases – four on the day of the expiry of the summer transfer – and the slow return of many of its members of the team existing due to international tournaments.

But the 49th match in all competitions will enter the quarter -final of the England Cup, boasting a 48 %victory rate, the highest joint of any permanent building in the last 30 years for having taken over a significant number of games. After removing Steve Bruce (61 percent from 18 games), only Dave Basset can match Glasner. Bassett, however, took 60 games, 18 more than Glasner has in his year in office.

It is already revered by many afterwards Run of seven unbeaten games (six wins and a draw) to finish last season And now this improvement during the current campaign. This is the first time that he manages the building in the cups and has reached two quarters of the final, losing 3-2 against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup in December.

There is still the possibility of doing something of a season that at the beginning seemed to be a lost cause.

Yet there are Palace fans who will talk about a lost opportunity and what could have been. The attention focused on a potential challenge for the European qualification at the beginning of the season, but those eight initial games without a victory hindered them significantly.

If the signatures were previously acquired, the preparation for the new season had been adequate, so the building could already be seriously disputed for Europe and enjoy a potential trip to Wembley in FA Cup.

Glasner himself also sees him in this way, believing that his team would not only be higher than their twelfth place in the Premier League if things had been planned better in the summer, but probably will qualify for Europe.

There is certainly validity in such statements and we have already been here. When the games were paused due to the outbreak of the Pandemia di Coronavirus in March 2020, Palace housed the dreams of Europe under Roy Hodgson, only that their shape falls from a cliff during the “restarting the project”. They finished the 14th.

Alan Pordew led Palace to the best milestone of the tenth in 2014-15 with 10 wins from the last games of the Club League 18 and brought them to the fifth half of the following season, before their shape had collapsed to leave them in 15th place after 38 games, while it was defeated by Manchester United in the Fa Cup final.

The registers were broken under Patrick Vieira in 2021-22Only for a recruitment that fails in the summer and managerial errors to cancel that work in his second season. Era fired after 11 championship games without a victory.

There have been many moments “those who could have been” for Palace, but often it is so for the clubs of similar dimensions. Forest’s success in this season is an outlier, although everything has gone orderly. The question is: why has it never been a palace – and will it ever be?

Glasner represents a great opportunity to do this, but his contract expires next summer. The interviews are underway on a new agreement But Palace will do well to keep it when it probably will have offers from elsewhere after the relative success he has achieved in southern London.

When Palace returns to Fulham on Saturday to continue their tendency to compete in a quarter final of the England Cup every three years-2016, 2019, 2022 and now 2025-Person to go beyond past errors, to use the trust acquired by their record shape and take a step forward towards the maximum objective of winning a large trophy for the first time in the history of the club.

But they must first overcome Fulham and channel attention “in the moment” by Glasner rather than reflect on past failures or potential future successes.

The season began with the beat of records for the wrong reason, but since then it has been launched on the other side. Everything that remains is to find out how much none of this will get in the end. It remains in their gift to determine the narration of the season.
