Charlotte Edwards: New England coach chief coach says that players will be “responsible” for fitness

Edwards won the ashes and both World Cup as the captain of England to be fired only in 2016 and replaced by Knight.

Now Knight has been fired but has indicated his desire to continue as a player. Edwards, 45, said he was not consulted in the decision to remove Knight.

“It establishes such high standards, is the last professional and what we need around the English team right now,” Edwards said.

“He is playing well as I have ever seen his play. It was difficult to look at the ashes, because of the toll that he was taking it. Without the captain, it is hoped that he could go to bigger and better things as a player.”

To take the work in England, Edwards left all his roles in the domestic cricket, including his post as head of the Mumbai Indians in the women’s Premier League. While he was the coach of England, Lewis was responsible for Up Warriorz in the same competition.

England will appoint a new national selector, as well as a new captain, which Edwards has said that it will be in force for the series against the Western Indies in May.

The deputy captain of Knight Nat Sciver-Brunt previously said he would be interested in work, while Charlie Dean, Off-Spinner, admitted that he had not refused him if he approached.

Edwards, who has led England in more than 200 occasions, said he is looking for “someone leading from the front in everything they do, someone who has respect for the current play group”. Edwards also said that England will have a captain rather than dividing the role among the formats.

Edwards was appointed after a revision of the ashes led by the Director of England of the women’s cricket Clare Connor and the director of performance Jonathan Finch.

Connor, herself a captain of England winner of the ashes, confirmed that Edwards received the work without a formal process.

In 2018, England and Wales Cricket Board undertook to adopt the Rooney rule – interviewing at least one applicant of black, Asian or minority ethical for all coaching roles in his national teams. It was not used for the appointment of Edwards.

“In these particular circumstances, with the criteria in front of me, I did not believe that an open recruitment process was needed or that anyone benefited,” Connor said.

“I was very, very clear that there was a person in the world of coaching who could have played this role. Charlotte Edwards is the only person on the planet who can emerge every box to the extent that he can.”

Connor also opted for the involvement of internal or independent leadership for the review. To the question if this was equivalent to Connor and Finch “scoring the tasks”, Connor said: “I understand that perspective.

“I am responsible for the Board of Directors of the women’s cricket in England. I am very confident in the steps we are adopting and in the way we are preparing the team for success. This is the job for which I paid.

“I am not an illusion that the dollar stops with me and I am responsible for the English women’s cricket team and how we perform.”
