Chris Richards of Crystal Palace a Miss Southampton Game With Callf Issue

The Usmnt International Chris Richards will miss the match of the Premier League of Crystal Palace with Southampton on Wednesday with a problem of calves.

The defender suffered a slight injury in Palace’s 3-0 victory for Fulham in the quarterfinals of the England Cup on Saturday.

He played the last 10 games for Palace, helping them to a series of six away games without granting a goal, and has always been present since Trevoh Chalobah was remembered by Chelsea on January 15.

The 24 -year -old started 20 times this season, with all the games of the England Cup, and is impressed in the heart of the defense together with Maxence Lacroix and Marc Guehi.

“Tomorrow we will miss Chris Richards, he is fighting a little with his calf,” Glasner said in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday. “We expect you to return to Brighton, but tomorrow it’s too early.

Richards played 79 minutes for his country in their 1-0 defeat of the Concacaf Nations League by Panama on March 20, but did not appear in the 2-1 defeat by Canada three days later.

Glasner believes that the journey was not useful in the preparation of Richards to return to domestic action, but stopped suggesting that it was the cause of the injury.

“At the end of the game he felt like (he had) a cramp in his calf. We thought it was a cramps and this (it can happen) very often after traveling, he played in Los Angeles with a difference of nine hours and a flight of 12-13 hours.

“It is not a serious injury, but we know that we cannot take risks. If the muscle breaks are out for 4-6 weeks. It would not have been a big problem in March in which we had two games, but now we have seven in April and we want (all) the players available.”

Glasner will now evaluate whether to bring Nathaniel Clyne as a third central defender, or whether to drop Jefferson Lerma in defense in the place of Richards for the trip to St Mary’s.

“This is a solution (to play Lerma to the central defender),” said Glasner. “Clyne is another solution. The third solution that you will be surprised, but this is why we sometimes play (games) internally. In this game I tried Tyrick Mitchell inside by means and Ben Childwell for the second half.

“Jeff Lerma played in the back three, so we used it to get information on what could work and how they can adapt together. We received some answers and all the answers you will see tomorrow.”
