THE Department of Defense It will offer a new tour of voluntary resignation and retirement for the civil workforce, but the details are thin.
In a short reminder, defense secretary Pete Hegseth said the Pentagon “Immediately” would offer voluntary pensioners and would have started another plan of deferred resignation. He warned that “the exemptions should be rare”, but did not provide details on how the offers will appear or say if they would have left the entire civil workforce of over 900,000.
And while signed the reminder on Friday, it was released to the leaders of the Pentagon until Monday and there were no information on when or as such offers will be distributed and when the deadlines will be.
Hegseth in the memo said he wants to use voluntary programs to “maximize participation so that he can minimize the number of involuntary actions that may be necessary”.
The cuts are part of the largest effort in the billionaire Trump councilor Elon Musk Government efficiency service to cut the federal workforce and dismantle US agencies.
In mid -March, a high defense official declared that about 50,000 to 60,000 civil jobs will be cut in the defense department, in an attempt to achieve the goal of a 5% cut to 8% in that workforce.
Less than 21,000 workers who have taken the first offer of voluntary resignation are leaving in the coming months, the official said at that moment, speaking on condition of anonymity to provide personnel details. In addition, the Pentagon hopes to cut about 6,000 positions every month simply not replacing the workers who usually leave.
The officials did not say how many civilians of the Defense Department they accepted the initial offer – also known as “Forks in the road” – but have been refused. In some cases the supervisors considered essential employees for national security.
According to the new reminder, the secretaries of services and other leaders of the department will provide a new organizational graph proposed with consolidated management, titles and position numbers “clearly depicted” by 11 April.
