Fa Cup: like Sir Alex Ferguson was left “buzzing” by Welbeck’s goal
After Danny Welbeck scored the extra time winner against Newcastle to send Brighton to the quarterfinals of the England Cup, an unexpected name appeared on his mobile phone.
“(Sir Alex Ferguson) he actually called me after the Newcastle goal,” he told Football Focus.
“He spoke of the goal and performance. He was buzzing and to have that type of connection, he is a manager who is always looking for his players, he always wants the best for them, and to date he is in contact.”
Welbeck’s career began under Ferguson at Manchester United, where he was part of the team that won the Premier League in 2013.
The attacker moved to Arsenal the following year and helped them lift the Cup of England twice, something that now hopes to help Brighton to reach while the seagulls are preparing to host Nottingham Forest in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
With Ferguson and then Airsne Wenger, it was not a bad couple of managers for which he worked, and two who says influence who is today.
“Sir Alex Ferguson was successful in his own way, Airsne Wenger has been successful on his way,” he added. There are several ways to achieve success.
“These two managers played a huge role in my life, not just my career.”
