Fabian Shar extends Newcastle’s stay until the summer of 2026

The Newcastle defender Fabian Shar has extended his contract to the club until the summer of 2026.

The Swiss International joined the Gagpies from the Spanish Club Deportivo La Coruna in July 2018.

Schar, 33, has made 221 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle and recently helped them win the Carabao Cup, the club’s first domestic trophy since they raised the England Cup in 1955.

His previous agreement had been destined to expire at the end of June.

“A few weeks have passed for everyone in Newcastle after winning the Carabao Cup and now I’m really happy to sign another contract with this fantastic club,” Schar said.

This mandate has played 33 times for Newcastle, with the fifth of the club in the Premier League and a challenge for a place in the Champions League of the next season.

The Newcastle coach Eddie Howe added: “Fabian was exceptional in my time to the club. In addition to his performances on the pitch, he showed a fantastic attitude in the group.

“So far it has been the heartbeat of the club season and will continue to be a key player for us while we strive to finish as high as possible in the table.”
