A metro train raised along the final section of the new $ 21.6 billion Sydney railway line, marking the beginning of over 6500 hours of tests that will determine when it will open to passengers next year.

The first TS28 train-set arrived at the Campsie station at 4 in the morning on Thursday, completing a five-hour race from Sydenham. The 6.5 -kilometer trip will require only 11 minutes when the line in the end will open next year.

Stopping in each station, the train headed to Campsie before traveling later throughout the length of the new line to Bankstown.

The first phase of the tests on the Sydenham-Bankstown line involves subway trains that travel up to 25 km/h. In the following months, they will be tested at speeds up to 100 km/which pass from manual to automatic operations.

All in all, it will include more than 6500 hours of testing and putting in service.

The 13 kilometers of the track between Sydenham and Bankstown was originally due to reopen as the final part of the Metro line m1 At the end of this year, but it was recently delayed until 2026.

Prime Minister Chris Minns said that it was an exciting day for the people of the South-West of the city who suffered serious interruptions for their railway services and patiently waited for what would have been a new transformative metropolitan service.

“Seeing a metro train in tests on these tracks is a look at the future in which the people of Bankstown and Belmore, Campsie and Canterbury will have access to the most modern metropolitan services, of turning point and go that leave these stations every four minutes,” he said.
