The first hour of Port was the best since last season, comparable to their efforts against Sydney late last season at home and on air, when Port scored a dozen goals for two.

The hawthorn was sufficiently embarrassed from that first hour that their skipper James Sicilia – never one to pull the verbal fists – observed in Channing Seven during the break that: “We have to bring out our heads from our asses and put ourselves at work”.
They went to work, but they were at least half an hour late.
The Hawks extracted not only the head from their shoulders, as suggested by Sicily, began to extract football from the races. Their Premier Will Day midfielder is missing with a serious foot injury, it was their best and Giusto Jai Newcombe in 2024 who provided the initial impulse, together with Ruckman Lloyd Meek, and the striker vinegar Jack Gunston, who closed with six goals.

The reduced star of the opening outbreak was not the magician of Hawthorn Nick Watson. Rather, Joe Richards was smoked, the small port forward prepared by Collingwood with a longer term contract and the promise of a normal game. Richards scored two intelligent goals and created another.
For the first formative hour, their movement of the ball was more ad hoc than Hokball.

The Blitzkrieg of Port was fed, so to speak, for domain in every aspect of the game, and no player encapstered the first half at 12 goals compared to their skipper Connor Rozee, which Hinkley had skillfully deployed in half a diploma, rather than putting it in the square with companions of goods Zak Zak and Jason Horne-Francis.
Halfway through time, Rozee had gained 515 meters stunning and had a dozen highly harmful kicks. Non -molest – the Hawks seemed to forget that they had opponents in the first 45 minutes – Rozee was able to load the field and score two goals.
Horne-Francis and Butters, who are among the middle of the elite of the game, combined for more than 60 sales during the entire game and, unlike some teammates, remained productive for most of the second half.
The Hawks just touched the ball in the first 20 minutes and were destroyed in authorizations. Defensively, or lacking intent or uncertain, in that first half hour that defines the game, when the overturned port was accumulated on six goals to one.
It cannot be said that they will have gained confidence from that charge of the second half. Port is the team that needed conviction.
Rather, according to the half -time comments of Sicily, the Hawks could have earned a necessary touch of humility.
On this night, they met a team determined to make a declaration – in defense of their coach, their fans and to themselves.
In eight days, they will meet a team made of more strict things, with which the Hawks have a much deeper and legendary rivalry: Geelong.
