Hundreds of thousands of Canadians deal with power interruptions due to ice storm | Canada
More than 300,000 Canadians have faced current interruptions in some parts of the Ontario on Sunday while an ice storm hit the region during the weekend, according to the Hydro One electricity provider.
Environment Canada has issued warnings of winter storms for the frozen rain in Ottawa, parts of Quebec And the Ontario, with the risk of mixed snow or ice pellet transition that should continue until Monday morning in some regions.
“The interruptions are largely caused by the arts of the trees and the branches that are weighed down by the accumulation of icy rain,” said Hydro One on his website, also observing the risk of floods for the central Ontario.
More than 300,000 customers have been affected from Sunday afternoon, according to the website, with the energy that should be restored on April 1st.
The Utility Supplier Alectra said that there were about 35,000 customers without energy, mainly in Barrie, a city north of Toronto. “The progress was slow due to the ice on the lines, but all the resources available were distributed,” said on Sunday.
The city of Orillia in Ontario has declared the state of emergency due to the storm while the prolonged icy rain continues to cause widespread current interruptions, dangerous road conditions, cut trees and hydroelectric lines and damage to public and private infrastructures.

Several residents throughout the Ontario declared on social media that the roads were closed due to eradicated trees and had listened to Crash Tress since the start of the storm.
