Jackie Burns: Calgary’s move came to the “right moment” for the Northern Ireland goalkeeper

Burns, who previously played in the United States, Iceland and Sweden, says that international duty will come as a beautiful distraction after an intense week of preparing to move.
“It was on the cards for a while, so to overcome the line it was a bit of a relief,” he admitted.
“Last week and a half it was a bit to get used to the fact that it is actually happening, preparing my mentality for this and it is difficult because I still had to make myself available for Bristol but also to make my luggage for the next move, elaborate the waste and jump to the field.”
Burns will join his new team after the international break in view of the opening of the season on April 16 and explained that previously he had played the idea of moving first to Canada, but the transfer did not materialize.
“I haven’t dedicated myself much time to think about it. Going to Canada is restarted and seeing where I can get from there,” he added.
“The idea was proposed to me, but I didn’t know how to hear it, it is a new league and a new team, you don’t know what to expect and there are many risks in this.
“It arrived at some point and did not work, it arrived again and I could not deny it. It was nice to know that there was an interest elsewhere.”
The encouragement of the boss of Northern Ireland Tanya Oxtoby was also crucial to persuade the burns that the move was reasonable for his international career.
“It was one of the first people I was in contact with, international things became an important part of this, but it was a case of what will feel me to help this team (of Northern Ireland) more.
“If it is something that can also give you a life experience, then you have to take it.”
