Jamaal Lascelles has another year on the Newcastle agreement after an extension without notice

Jamaal Lascelles has another 12 months to run over his contract over the end of the season, with the Newcastle United Club captain he gave an extension without notice last year.
The 31 -year -old has been put aside since last Marchhaving broken the ligament of the front crusader knee (ACL) during the 4-3 victory against the West Ham United, and it is not clear if it will be quite fit to return before the end of this campaign.
Lascelles signed a six -year extension in 2018, which should have ended last summer, before the club exercised an option to keep it on Tyneside. Newcastle has not announced that Lasches now has a contract that takes place until 2026 and not in 2025 as previously thought, but the sources with knowledge of the situation, speaking on condition of anonymity, informed Atletico that this is the case.
Last month, Lascelles, the club’s captain, was given the honor of lifting the Carabao Cup in Wembley together with Bruno Guimaraes, the skipper on the field and Kieran Trippier, who regularly worn the band since they joined the club in January 2022
Despite Fabian Schar and Emil Krafth Also signs extensions of the 12 -month contract Until next summer, and Lasches are still intended to be part of the defensive contingent who heads around 2025-26, the acquisition of a central defender on the right side remains a priority in the transfers market during the imminent window.
“I don’t know if we will see Jamaal before the end of the season,” Howe said at the beginning of this month. “I don’t really want to set a goal on his time to return. He started very light training with the team, but it would be light, not necessarily in competitive exercises.
“He joined the exercises that have not been competitive, and it is really good. They are small steps for him. We hope that he can surely join and compete in training before the end of the season, but if this binds to the team and if he arrives in time in terms of competitive action, we wait and see.”
The coach was cryptic in his response when he was asked if Lascales would have been given an extension, with the assumption in that phase that the defender’s agreement was due to the expiry.
“He is a great player for us,” said Howe, when he was asked for Lascales’ future during a pre-match press conference. “It is very popular and is still a great leader in the group.
“He has a great presence and I am pleased that he could have raised the cup with the other guys. It deserves that moment for the period of time when it was here and the service that the club gave.”
