King undergoes a hospital observation due to the side effects of cancer treatment | King Charles III

King Charles went to the hospital on Thursday after experiencing “temporary side effects” as part of his continuous medical treatment for cancer, said Buckingham Palace.

The monarch was subjected to a programmed treatment for cancer this morning, which requested “a short period of observation in the hospital”, according to a declaration of the building.

“The afternoon commitments of His Majesty were therefore postponed,” said a spokesperson.

“His Majesty has now returned to Clarence House and, as a precautionary measure, acting for medical advice, tomorrow’s diary program will also be reprogrammed.”

The king sent his apologies to “all those who could be dissolved or disappointed” because of his decision to postpone and reprogram his diary, added the declaration.

A source described it as a “smaller Bump in a road that is heading in the right direction”.

In Charles, an unmealing form of cancer was diagnosed in February 2024 and returned to duties aimed at the public in April while it was still subjected to weekly treatments.

This week he had an intense week of commitments, including a reception for the media and a visit to a land exhibition, and should make an historical state visit in Italy in 10 days.

The king should have met ambassadors in public in Buckingham Palace on Thursday afternoon and to go to Birmingham on Friday, but these were postponed.

The king visited the London clinic, where he was treated for an extended prostate in January 2024, Thursday morning, and traveled to and from the hospital by car.

It was not reached by the queen during her short stay.

It is understood that the side effects, of which the details were not disclosed, were temporary and not unusual with many medical treatments.

It was said that the king was in good shape at home in Clarence House, where he was working on state documents and made calls from his study.

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace said: “His Majesty should have received credentials from the ambassadors of three different nations this afternoon.

“Tomorrow he should have embarked four public commitments in Birmingham, and it is very disappointed to be losing them on this occasion.

“He hopes a lot that they can reprogram debt and offers his deepest apologies to all those who had worked so hard to make the planned visit possible.”
