Like your Tielemans by Aston Villa played with Nottingham Forest in a game of cat and mouse

They were probably the only two thoughts that buzzed in Morgan Gibbs-White’s head in the first quarter of an hour of the 2-1 victory of Aston Villa over the Nottingham forest. His neck appeared on a ruling constant, which tires tirelessly between hitting a look on where Villa had possession and scan for Tielemans.

The Belgium International is the main accumulation conduit of Villa and the only player who started every championship game this season and has accumulated the highest number of minutes. Even in a game where Unai Emery broke its managerial convention and made eight changes to the initial formation, it remained.

Tielemans is not the most athletic, agile or explosive, yet his speed of thought is faster and above one of those attributes. He made Gibbs-White-The opponent in charge of stopping passage and reducing his threat-perennially aware and worried.

Villa has scored twice in 138 seconds and, in the 15 minutes of opening, blowing the defensive doors usually bolted the forest.

Tielemans provided assistance for the first and orchestrated the best game period of the villa in their campaign. The first indications of Gibbs-White’s mandate were surprising. Villa had won possession and Forest retired quickly into their fixed form. Amadou Onana, a midfield partner of Tielemans, led and in space.

Although initially he was closer to the ball, Gibbs-White remained with Tielemans and scanned to see where he was. This meant that Anthony Elanga had to make the race longer and more tiring to close Onga.

Villa has maintained possession for 50 seconds, with the passive forest and aims to condense the space in midfield. In principle, this was through the first line of Forest, remaining narrow and white-white Tielemans, which, in turn, would have stopped the most progressive passer-by of Villa by opening the central areas.

In this season, only Chelsea attacks centrally more than Villa. Tielemans is largely responsible for this. Counter-intuitively, Villa took early control through the lack of involvement of Tielemans. For all Gibbs-White awareness, Tielemans did not touch the ball in those 50 seconds.

Gradually, the presence of Tielemans was warned. He began to move and craft, offering a way to break down the disciplined defensive form of the forest.

In this example, Tielemans takes a few steps back and convinces his direct opponent to do the same. This gives space to Ian Maatsen to drive in the box.

The next stratagem was that Tielemans moved away from midfield and take on a left back position. The forest was without a n. 9 Archetypal and struggled to respond with their own punches. Gibbs-White continued to scan, but teammates questioned who was following Tielemans. He would have turned inside from large areas and in front of Alana, using Gibbs-White as a shield to play.

In the following instance, the latter checks to see where Tielemans is located, yet the midfielder of the villa is already behind him.

“We started the game really badly, we were not organized and we did not closed the lines,” said the director of the forest Nuno Expirito Santo to BBC Radio 5 Live. “Villa has broken us many times.”

The model continued while Tieleman generated attacks and progresses played forward. Gibbs-White would have shot the tables in the second half. But due to the damage inflicted in the first 15 minutes – with also Donyell Malen who marked – the forest was let it push the water uphill.

It was the awareness of Tielemans and Forest of him who crosses the decisive period.

“He is a very important player,” Emery said. “Sometimes we need it to take (check) the time of the field.”

Tielemans Ruggì full -time while teammates hit the floor, exhausted. In a team that has made eight changes in search of fresh energy and with the intention of hitting the forest, Villa’s staff recognized how much tielemans are critical for the general functioning of their system. Tielemans, however, tends to be a step forward this season.
