Lilah Fear & Lewis Gibson’s Journey to World Championship Ice Dance Bronze Medal
Over the years the fear and Gibson have been known for their high energy performances that have delighted the crowd because they always seem to be having fun with their best friend.
They really are.
Gibson has spoken in the past of his enjoyment of performing -ia that it is dancing with his father or publishing carefree social videos.
It was that aspect of ice dance, combined with a struggle to constantly perform the big jumps in single skating and couples, who convinced him to change disciplines in 2015 at the age of 21.
He had been a late appetizer in figure skating, bringing him only to the age of 11, and even if it was natural – he ran through three badges in one of his first beginners sessions – he did not qualify for the greatest events in individuals.
In their first season together in 2016-17, he and Fear won the British Ice dance title and qualified for the European championships.
Far from the ice, fear loves to perform behind the microphone, sing or present podcast.
A psychology student with a thirst for learning, presents and modifies his podcasts in which his interview subjects range from athletes to the authors to entrepreneurs.
“I really felt the power of role models in my life, (Champion Canadian Olympic Ice Dance) Tessa Virtue really inspired me in this sport and the conviction in myself,” he said. “And I want to be able to give it to people in a variety of crafts from all over the world to share stories and trigger something in my listeners.”
Gibson was a guest in his show, revealing his love for Haggis and Fudge and how he has the coordinates of the latitude and longitude of his hometown – Prestwick in Scotland – tattooed on his shoulder.
