Maple Leafs reports: Mitch Marner plays defender and overtime Hero vs. Canadiens

The last Hockey night of the regular season in Canada for the Toronto Maple Leafs was not as electric as many would expect. Instead of being a flashy offense exhibition between two qualified teams, he ended up being an efficient defensive performance to the end. The possibilities of score were relatively uniform all night, but there was a significant difference in the shots on goal. Montreal did not hit two-digit shots up to the 5:50 sign of the third, and when the regulation ended, the leafs increased by 34-15.
Craig Berubbe underlined the importance of the team’s defense before this game, with the leafs that dress only five defenders and the team responded to the call. Stolarz spent a relatively easy night apart from a few moments here and there. Toronto limited the time of the offensive area of the Habs and maintained things outside. They also did a good job by preventing the second and third opportunity on Stolarz, who got Jakub Dobes at times.
Things opened for a few minutes in the third, and it seemed that the hockey gods could turn and ironically smile on Montreal for what Dobes was doing on the net. Now, I wouldn’t say that he was stealing the game for the Habs. The game of power is probably the main stain on the night of the leafs, with them that do not mark four opportunities. In one night like this, the advantage of man could have completely removed Montreal, but Toronto had to wait for his only blow in the extraordinary to beat Dobes for a 1-0 victory.
The Leafs have conquered a playoff point and have now conquered the ice at home in the first round. Next stop: the title of the Atlantic Division.

Players’ relationships
Brandon Carlo: A+
Carlo was fantastic – ignoring him stumbled upon extraordinary, especially in the neutral area. He did a good job using his body to break the transition in the neutral area, which worked well when it was on the offside. His best game in the game was an excellent use of the coordination for the hand eyes to break down a passage of escape to Josh Anderson. If this had arrived, Anderson had gone and had been given his love for the signs against the Leafs, he could have been a difference.
Anthony Stolarz: a
With how well the leaves defended, Stolarz did not have to do much, but he presented himself when necessary for the 15 sales Shatout. The game was in the territory “First Goal Wins” for a while, and stopped everything he had to face in the midst of some fears of rebound here and there. Ironically, his best time has not been recorded as a rescue. Nick Suzuki had the game on his stick in the extraordinary and stolarz blocked with him all the time, lengthening his bearings.

Morgan Rielly: a
He led all the defenders in the time of the ice (25:43) and linked for most of the shooting attempts five out of five, and raised the clutch with his controls. His best came out of a strange race in which Suzuki shot to create a rebound for Cole Caufield. Rielly came to him with a stick control and prevented the shot from going out.

Simon Benoit: a
Two shots and five shots for Benoit. He is still jumping inside and continues his constant game.

Chris Tanev: a
Excellent coverage of the lane five out of five, in particular for the penalty.
Auston Matthews: a
Five shots in the night for Matthews and did a good job going against the Suzuki line. He almost shot from a flagship vintage snipe, but was blocked in the slot.
Mitch Marner: a-
It was not a surprise to see the Marner training on the blue line with Carlo. Two of the team’s defensive defensive came out of his stick, bringing against the strange cornines, but he came to great team with special teams and obviously the extraordinary. Everything we wanted was a blow.

John Tavares: B+
Legated with Marner for most of the shots on the net at six. His score possibilities created a lot of chaos for Dobes. Those Net-Drive sequences were one thing, but forced the rescue after rescue on the advantage of man. It was also quite strong one against one against Lane Hutson. Sometimes, he would have forgotten the disc and would only take the body.

Nick Robertson: B+
Robertson was shot by a cannon to start the game. He had successes on Juraj Slafkovský and Caufield from his opening round and made them go while the game went on. He also had one of the best possibilities of the team to score.

William Nylander: B
He briefly left the game in the first, but he returned and put four shots on the net, continuing to obtain primary assistance on the winner of the Marner match.
Matthew Knies: B
It was not an offensive night for the cornerstones; His only blow came out of the game of power from the blue paint, but he did a good job by pressing the Backchecking of the Habs.
Philippe Myers: B
He played the least number of minutes on the blue line. He had some rough moments, including a free failure area along the axes that gave Habs a prolonged race at the end of the leafs.
Scott Laughton: B
Back-to-back games with a stick to save the goal on Jake Evans. Laughton also went 4-0 in the Dot FaceOff.
Calle Iron Hook: B
Järnkrok had two high possibilities for Leafs, only one of them hit the net. He also had a good round of post-penal killing with Robertson, where he aroused a penalty that went around Brendan Gallagher.
Max Domi: B
He had a struggle with central ice against Kaiden Guhle after Guhle had great shots on Bobby Mcmann and Tavares. Domi also had three odd joints in the third with its speed, but it was not much generated by them.
Pontus Holmberg: C
The 2lw carousel went around a little in the third and Holmberg got a turn.
Bobby Mcmann: C
I thought maybe Mcmann could be gathered with Tavares and Nylander, but had no shots and only an attempt in the game.
Steven Lorentz: C
Lorentz played in the lower number of minutes, launched two shots, but did not have an attempt to shoot.
