Marco Silva: Adam Wharton deserved the second “clear” yellow card in the loss of the Fulham England Cup

The head of the coach of Fulham Marco Silva believes that the Crystal Palace Adam Wharton midfielder should have shown a second “clear” yellow card during Saturday’s quarter.
Wharton, 21, was booked by the referee Darren England after 14 minutes for a foul on Willian, but remained unpuncted later in the first half after a meeting with Rodrigo Muniz in the central circle, with the scores still at the level of 0-0.
The couple came across the other before Wharton seemed to explode and capture Muniz, who fell to the ground. Filming seemed to show the coach of the Crystal Palace Oliver Glasner who told Wharton to “be smart” after the accident.
While the system saw Assistant Arcitee (VAR) is in use in this phase of the FA CUP, the challenges of yellow cards do not fall into the mandate for a VAR intervention. If the challenge had been considered an offense of red cards by Var Robert Jones, he could have intervened.
“For me it’s clear, a second yellow card,” Silva said to Itv Football. “Unfortunately for us we are used to this type of situation. I prefer to look at it as unfortunate.
“Of course, the VAR cannot overturn the decision, but you can eyes inside the field. The linesman on the opposite side has all the corners to see it. Even the fourth officer. It is a clear second yellow card. It should have a huge impact on the game.”
Palace continued to beat Fulham 3-0 in Craven Cottage, with Wharton impressed in midfield.
The goals of Eberechi Eze, Ismaila Sarr and Eddie Nketiah have ensured Palace’s progression towards the semifinals and Silva admitted that his team did not make enough to either of the two ends of the field to win the game.
“An excellent start to us in the first 20-25 minutes,” he continued. “We should have scored at that moment.
“I said that when we prepared for the game we had to be ruthless and clinical in this type of games when we have the possibilities, because they are solid, they are compact. When we are able to create we have to score, we must punish them. We have not done and we are not strong enough in both ends today.
“The way we granted the three objectives shows that we are not strong enough at every end when we had the possibilities and defending our box.”
Palace’s victory has achieved a first semifinal point of the FA Cup from the 2021-22 season. Oliver Glasner’s team will discover their last four opponents during Sunday’s draw.
