Miami Open: Novak Djokovic beats Sebastian Korda to reach the semifinals

It is a first appearance in the semifinal for Djokovic in this tournament since 2016 and, with Carlos Alcaraz, Jack Draper and Dani Medvedev between a series of semi -top 10 already outside, the draw has opened for the Serbian to add another title of Miami.

Djokovic took the opening set on Thursday efficiently, breaking the service of his opponent in the eighth match.

But the Grand Slam champion 24 times had to dig deep in the second, with an impressive service that allowed him to recover from 5-2 down to force a draw and win the victory.

“So far the best performance for me,” said Djokovic. “I was quite nervous because you never know what comes from Korda – it is so aggressive and talented.

“I was on my rear foot, waiting for his mistake rather than dictating from the back of the field. When I needed a first service, I got it but a tense game and a great performance.”

Thursday before, the Czech did not sit down Jakub Mensik beat the 17th seed Arthur Fils 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 to book a semifinal against the 29th Italian seed Matteo Berrettini or the American Taylor Fritz.
