Min Woo Lee holds Scottie Scheffler and Gary Woodland out to win Houston Open

Australia Min Woo Lee has obtained its first PGA Tour victory with the win at the Houston Open with a dramatic goal.

Lee was led by three out of 21 shots under Scottie Scheffler and Gary Woodland when he put his shirt in the water on the sixteenth par-after and loaded a Bogey.

Woodland finished with an eagle and two birds of his four final holes to match the record of the 62 route and fix the advantage of Club House to 19 below.

World Number One Scheffler, playing in the penultimate group, had the opportunity to take a part of the advantage on the 17th, but he lost a Putt for a fifth consecutive bird – and he also ended on the 19th after a last round 63.

Lee needed one equal to 18 to secure the victory and managed, keeping the courage to load a 67 and finish a light shot out of 20 below.

“It’s difficult, really difficult,” said Lee, 26, after his triumph. “Scottie is a wonderful golf and keeps you on tiptoe.

“This is the first time I am facing and I’m trying to keep a command. I am happy to have done it, but friend, I am only very exhausted.

“It was a lot of mental grinding. I am so proud of the way I managed.”

Rory Mcilroy of Northern Ireland produced an impressive six under-par 64 round, which included an eagle, six birds and a bogey, while it reached 15 below.

“It was a good week,” Mcilroy said, who hopes to complete a career Grand Slam winning the Masters in Augusta next month.

“I still feel as if I had things to work on. Overall, a solid and nice week having another week to prepare and develop my game for Augusta.

“My right elbow has annoyed me a little, so (maybe) maybe just a treatment on this to make sure it is fine in Augusta.”
