Scottie Scheffler followed her 62 route record in the second round with a 69 and is out of 12 below, together with Ryan Fox (65) and Ryan Gerard (68).

“Yesterday I pierced a lot of put, today I feel as if I could not let the ball enter the hole,” said Scheffler. “I feel like I have hit many good puts.

“There is not really much that you can do different out there. Try to shoot as low as possible today and tomorrow I will try to do the same thing.”

Rory Mcilroy of Northern Ireland produced a round of 65, which included three birds and one eagle, to go nine on par.

“I played well,” Mcilroy said. “It was nice to go out and play decent.

“I certainly didn’t have the best, but he shot a decent ride and, hopefully, another good tomorrow.”
