Multiple local super funds hit by coordinated cyberattack

Multiple superannuation funds were affected by a coordinated computer attack that led members to lose money after accessing their accounts from the criminal company.
The super funding from the Australian reitement Trust, Australiansuper, HostPlus, Rest and the largest owner of the Superrannual Insignia brand were all subject to the attack, according to multiple sources aware of the investigations that spoke on condition of anonymity. The hackers were able to access superfund passwords, most likely on the dark web, according to sources.

All the funds worked with the national coordinator for computer security to evaluate the depth and amplitude of the problem, since there are more fears more customers in those funds – and in other funds – had also been affected by the Hack.
The hackers seem to be familiar with the Australian superanuation system, targeting people in the withdrawal phase that are able to request flat -rate withdrawals. The attacks took place mainly in the early hours of the morning so that customers did not see the password change on their phones.
Rose Kerlin, Chief Member Officer Australianuper, urged the members to check their accounts and to contact the fund if they noticed that their password had been changed.
