Non-Monogamo as happy in their love lives as traditional-studio couples | Relations

People are not monogamed are equally happy in their love lives such as those with a single partner, but they are not “significantly” more sexually satisfied with traditional couples, it suggests research.

Polyamory, open relationships and oscillation are among the many forms of consensual non -monogamy. The Polymoron has become increasingly mainstream, with a recent survey that shows that one in 25 British experienced it. A further One in 14 He said they would be open to explore him.

And the authors of a new study said that their discoveries have challenged what they called a “unique approach for all relationships”, showing that contentment is not inextricably linked to monogamy.

“Our discoveries show that people do not monogame experience relationships and sexual satisfaction on par with those of monogamous relationships, challenging the myth that monogamy is intrinsically higher,” said dr. Joel Anderson, the first author of the study of the University of La Trobe.

“While monogamy works well for many, others find connection, realization and well -being through non -monogamous relationships.”

Write in the Journal of Sex ResearchThe team discovered that while some studies discovered that the satisfaction of the relationships was greater in monogamous relationships than non -monogamed relationships, other studies have discovered that the opposite was true and most found no difference.

“The estimate of the overall effect did not show significant differences in the satisfaction of relationships for individuals who do not monogami compared to monogamous individuals,” concluded the team, adding that the result held both for heterosexual participants and LGBTQ+.

And the team found similar results when they examined studies that explored sexual satisfaction.

While some research suggested that polyamore and oscillation were associated with greater sexual satisfaction, the analysis did not reveal any overall difference between non -monogame and monogamous relationships.

The team analyzed the data of 35 searches that involved more than 24,000 participants, dating back to 2007 and 2024, most of which were conducted in North America, Australia or parts of Europe.

All participants were in reports, with between 4.0% and 69.9% in non -monogamous configurations, depending on the study. Research has not examined monogamy or serial affairs.

Research has limits, including the type of relationship that is not monogamous has not been considered in many studies; Participants were often recruited through social networks, which means that they were not necessarily representative of the entire population; And the studies have been based on self-senulation, which can be distorted.

Anderson has also observed that some countries and cultures not represented in analysis may have different perspectives on non -monogamy.

However, he said that his work suggested that satisfaction in relationships did not concern their structure, but the way people communicated, connected and met.

He added: “This highlights the need to go beyond the mononorganous hypotheses on relationships and families and to create space – socially, culturally and professionally – for the entire spectrum of relationship possibilities.

“When people are supported to build the types of relationships that work for them, everyone benefits.”
