Northern Ireland: Defensive “decision-making process lacking in the 5-1 defeat in Sweden says Michael O’Neill

North Ireland manager Michael O’Neill said that his team “must defend better” after a friendly defeat 5-1 by Sweden in Stockholm.

Newcastle United Forward Alexander Isak marked a superb fourth For the hosts Tuesday, having also created their open.

While Isaac Price found the network for Northern Ireland late, O’Neill believed that the score was “a little hard” on its side.

“They had some fantastic moments, some great goals – in particular Isak,” said O’Neill.

“We have to defend ourselves better. Like three, we did not defend ourselves big, like a back we did not defend ourselves in terms of decision -making process.”

Sweden guided 2-0 in half time due to kind concession of their only two target shots in the 45 minutes of opening, while McConville lost a great chance for visitors with a header just before the break.

“I didn’t think there was a lot in the first half. They had two shots and scored two goals,” said O’Neill.

“We have two shots, the goalkeeper makes a rescue and the other is missing the target.

“It was not as if we were doing relying on our goalkeeper to do a lot of save or something.”
