Norwegian Club Bryne FK from eggs to goalkeeper as Award Man of the match
Once it was customary that the Premier League players were equipped with a bottle of champagne as a reward for winning the man of the game.
Since then the times have gone on, with the players who now receive a small trophy in recognition for their display.
But the Norwegian club Bryne Fk – where the Manchester City Erling Haaland striker began his career – has devised a new approach by assigning eggs to their game player.
The club, based in the south-west of Norway near the city of Stavanger, has been promoted for the first time to the maximum last season since 2003.
They were beaten 1-0 from the quarterfinalists of the Europa League Bodo/Glimt in their first appointment in the maximum division on Sunday.
But they were held in the game by goalkeeper Jan de Boer, who pulled out a series of stops and saved a second half penalty.
The Aldirese reward? Four egg trays, of course.
The prize is a nod to the club’s ties with local agriculture, dominated by the production of meat and dairy products.
Such is the association with agriculture, supporters often feel singing: “We are farmers and we are proud of it” to the games and there are “VIP” tickets for sale for fans to watch the games from a tractor on the sidelines.
But any Bryne player who hopes to get his hands on the eggs next week will be disappointed because the club says that their player of the match against Kristianund on April 6 will have local milk cartoons.
