Obama says that citizens may need to “sacrifice” to resist Trump’s policies

Former president Barack Obama Thursday evening he told a crowd that a certain sacrifice may be necessary to resist the policies of President Donald Trump.
Obama spoke to Clinton Hamilton College, New York, Thursday and accused the Trump Administration to try to destroy the post -war international order, according to the Washington Post.
During the speech, Obama defined Trump’s behavior “contrary to the basic compact that we have as Americans” and invited students to do more to resist Trump’s policies.
“It was easy during most of our life to say that you are a progressive, or to say that you are for social justice, or to say that you are for freedom of speech, and you don’t have to pay a price for this … and now we are in one of those moments when … it is not just to say that you are for something. You could really do something and perhaps sacrifice a little,” Obama said.

Obama has also said that law firms and universities must take on a more active role in resisting Trump, claiming that there would be a massive rejection if he tried to sanction his law firms.
“It is unimaginable that the same parts that are silent now would have tolerated behavior like me or a lot of my predecessors,” said Obama.

Obama said he was “deeply worried about a federal government that threatens universities if they do not give up students who exercise their right to freedom of speech”.
“All of you grew up in an international order created by America after the Second World War … This is an important moment because in the last two months, the United States government has tried to destroy that order,” said Obama. “Democracy is rather recent in its vintage. An international order in which it cooperates instead of fighting is new. It is fragile.”
