Paris: cars to be banned from 500 other roads after the referendum

The Parisians voted in favor of the other 500 roads in the French capital, strengthening the campaign in progress of the Town Hall to reduce the use of the car and improve the quality of the air.
A referendum held on Sunday saw almost 66 % of the voters approve the measure to create multiple areas without a car.
However, the turnout was low by just over 4 %, according to the official results.
The latter vote marks the third referendum of recent years, following a 2023 decision to ban e-scooters AND A 2024 move to significantly increase parking commissions for large SUVs.
The initiative will see the removal of 10,000 parking lots, adding to the 10,000 already eliminated from 2020.
City officials plan to consult ParisThe two million residents to determine which 500 roads will be transformed into pedestrian areas.
The network of “green lungs” will expand to almost 700 – over 10 % of the city streets.
