Red Bull on Verge to drop Liam Lawson for Yuki Tsunoda before the Japanese GP F1 | Formula 1
Red Bull is ready to replace Liam Lawson with Yuki Tsunoda after only two races of Formula 1 season. Tsunoda would join Max Verstappen for his home Grand Prix in Japan next week, with Lawson who probably returned to the Tori racing team.
Lawson was promoted by racing bulls to replace the Mexican pilot Sergio Pérez, but fought in his first two weekends of the race in Australia and China. The 23 -year -old New Zealand was with Tsunoda in the Red Bull’s power team for six races last season, after being enrolled to replace Daniel Ricciardo.
With Pérez leaving after a sad season in which he concluded the eighth in the world of drivers’ championship, Lawson was preferred to Tsunoda in second place of Red Bull. While Verstappen is second in the 2025 ranking, eight points behind Lando Norris of McLaren, Lawson was unable to score a point in Melbourne or Shanghai.
The Japanese Tsunoda started stronger and scored three points when he closed Sesto in the Shanghai sprint last Saturday. The director of the Red Bull Team, Christian Horner, said after the Chinese Grand Prix that Lawson was fighting, but the team would support him in the best possible way.
Red Bull has a story to exchange Verstappen’s teammates, with the world champion four times still n. 1 in a team that lost the title of manufacturers against McLaren last year.
Verstappen recognized that the current car is difficult to drive, with Lawson who told Shanghai who was fighting to make it perform. This task now seems destined to be Tsunoda in Suzuka, with Lawson who will probably return to Racing Bulls together with the newcomer Isak Hadjar, who finished a place in front of him at the 11th Chinese Grand Prix.
