Rory Mcilroy: World Number Two touches Houston after Augusta’s reconnaissance trip

The number two of the world also revealed that three other green had to be “redone”, but admitted that the main advantage of the trip was to take a look at the layout in the relative privacy.
“It’s nice for me to play a lap of practice without people around and it takes away the pressure for me,” Mcilroy added.
“There are many obligations, there are great commitments that are from the media or from the par-three tournament on Wednesday, so I just like getting up up there and feeling as if I don’t hurry on Tuesday, the week of the tournament.”
But while the Masters are looming and Mcilroy will try to join an elite club that includes only Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, the four -time winner of the Maggiore has insisted on the fact that his attention is focused on a third PGA Tour title in Houston.
Mcilroy won Pebble Beach Pro-Am last month before his triumph in Sawgrass.
“It’s not like I was playing here this week and I’m thinking about two weeks,” he said. “I’m here, I’m in the present, I’m trying to do my best this week and I’m trying to win this golf tournament.”
Mcilroy has decided to play in Houston rather than Valero Texas Open next week after deciding a more competitive start would help his master’s challenge.
“It was nice to get a victory a couple of weeks ago, but I still feel that I could have played much better,” he added.
“I tried to hit the holes in most of my game last week and think of things I could do better, and there were certainly things I could work on or do better.”
