Russia calls the “undesirable” Elton John Aids Foundation while Putin pushes LGBTQ+ Ban
Russia prohibited the Elton John Aids Foundationclaiming that “traditional spiritual and moral values” is undermined.
The ban is aimed at two branches of the Foundation, one based in the United States and the other in Great Britain, both now designated as “unwanted organizations”.
The Foundation, founded by the singer and songwriter, has previously clashed the Russian authorities on LGBTQ+rights. Gentleman Eltonwho performed in Russia, criticized what considers the discrimination against gays by the Russian government.
President Vladimir Putin He constantly rejected these criticisms, interpreting Russia as a defender of traditional values against a perceived decadent west. The latter move further intensifies the tensions between Russia and the organizations that promote LGBTQ+rights and freedoms.

In a declaration of mission on its website, the Foundation has declared that it has collected over 600 million dollars (£ 450 million) to support over 3,100 projects in 95 countries globally to increase access to health care, face LGBTQ+ stigma and final aids.
“When a musician plays together with the promoters of democracy, you get propaganda. And if Elton John is on the floor, it is not just an anti-Russian propaganda,” said the Russian prosecutor’s office in a statement on his official Telegram channel.
“NGOs (non -governmental organizations) actively participate in an information campaign orchestrated by the” collective West “to discredit traditional values and intensify social tensions,” he added.
In a separate declaration on its website, the prosecutor’s office complained of the promotion of the foundation of “non -traditional sexual relationships, western family models and gender reassignment”.
Without mentioning examples, the declaration also accused the basis of taking part in what called a western countryside to “denigrate Russia” for his war in Ukraine, something that the prosecutor called “special military operation”.
Putin has encouraged women to have at least three children to fight a dip at the birth rate and a law of 2022 has expanded the ban on “LGBT propaganda” to effectively prohibit any public expressions concerning homosexuality.
In November, the low chamber of Parliament of Russia unanimously voted to ban what the authorities have chosen as a pernicious propaganda for a lifestyle without children.
