Sean Murphy by Braves returns from Il, Homer Off Zack Wheeler in the first AT-BAT

ATLANTA – During a night when Chris Sale seemed only another pitcher instead of the winner of the NL Cy Young prize in office, the Atlanta Braves needed someone to intensify and unleash a dying offense.

Sean Murphy was that boy, hitting a three-pit man in his first appearance of Zack Wheeler’s Largo season, no less-and driving in four races to help the Braves to come from behind in a 7-5 victory in series against the Philadelphia Phillies.

“We needed it,” said Braves’ manager Brian Snitker. “This is an understatement.”

It was only the second victory in 10 games for the Braves and the third loss for the NL East Phillies leader, and arrived in Murphy’s first game from the list of injured. The veteran Catcher lost the first nine games that recover from a rib fractured after being hit by a shot in a spring training match of 28 February.

With two and two outside in the third inning, Murphy jumped on the second shot that he saw, a 1-0 sweater on the internal half of the plate, and led him on 401 feet on the wall of the left field for an advantage of 3-1.

“Incredible,” said Sale, who did not come out of the fifth inning and left Atlanta later 5-3. “I mean, a great race in the house with three shots, and another great success later in the game. It seemed only the game gravitated towards him today. Having such a boy who comes back around is the key to us.”

The sale had seven Strikeout without walks, but gave up nine shots and five runs in 4 inning 2/3. His teammates pulled him out of the hook and prevented the Braves from falling seven games behind the Phillies to just 10 games in the season.

Wheeler, classified to the sale in the 2024 Cy Young vote, also renounced five points out of eight shots and three walks in 5 inning 1/3, ending a series of 13 departures in which he launched at least six inning and renounced two or less shots earned, the longest race from a Phillies race in over a century.

The Braves obtained two races in sixth place in the single RBI of Murphy and a sacrificial fly by Michael Harris II, so they took the command for the good for Austin Riley’s double score in the seventh. Kelenic made three walks and one single and made a spectacular capture of diving in the ninth inning.

Murphy wore glasses for the first time in a Major League game. Astigmatism was diagnosed and tried to wear contacts during spring training, but they did not feel good, so he moved on to sports glasses during his three-way rehabilitation assignment at the triple-a Gwinnett, where he was 2 out of 10 with a humerus.

He does not know if the warmth and humidity this summer cause problems – he also wears the glasses under the mask of his receiver – but so far he liked how they felt.

When he came to the dish in the second Inning, Murphy said he wasn’t thinking of loosening in things, even against an elite launcher like Wheeler.

“There were guys on the base,” he said. “It wasn’t time to relax. It was a bit alone, if I have a good shot to hit, swing.”

Murphy’s Homer was the first of the Braves with a runner in a score position and arrived in their 85th apparition in those situations.

“It could have been someone,” said Murphy. “But we’ll see. I have another game tomorrow, so we’ll have to do it again.”

But it was nobody. It was no one, practically. The Braves entered the joke on Tuesday .173 with the runners in a score position, with an OBP .244 which was 29 ° in the majors, in front of the Chicago White Sox (.239).

Nineteen teams had an OBP of 0.310 or more with the runners in a score position before Tuesday evening, when the Braves went 3 out of 13 with resp, including Homer of Murphy and twice as Riley, after having fought in Ren situations.

The sale was on average 93.6 mph with its fast ball, down 1 mph from the previous parts this season and 1.3 mph from its 2024 average. It exceeded 96.1 mph and 97.3 mph in the first inning, but did not launch fast balls above 93.7 after the first inning and went more to its cursor.

“I just have to find the rhythm,” said Sale. “It has not yet been clicked. It is not all put together, which is frustrating, because I felt like I was a bit there in spring training. I felt I had an excellent spring training, apart from a type of shaky start. But everything else felt only in synchronization. And then once the season started, the type came out a bit from the rails.”

The sale, which turned 36 on March 30, was 18-3 with an era 2.38 last year in its first season with the Braves, leading the majors in victories and was and guiding the NL in Strikeouts (225 in 177 2/3 inning) for the Triple Crown of the NL Triple.

In his first three departures this season, he allowed six shots and three races earned in five inning in San Diego on the opening day, four shots including one homer and three races earned in five inning at the Dodger Stadium on April 1 and now against the Phillies.

The Braves lost their first two departures for sale after losing only seven of his 29 departures last season and at the beginning of consecutive only once, at the beginning of June.
