Take more care of your skin

The beauty industry has always preyed on our insecurities: try this lotion or potion to appear (and therefore to be!) Haier, healthier, cute, younger. Marketing experts use that vanity to convince ourselves that we need products formulated uniquely for the cold, the warm climate, the crow’s feet, the underestimated areas, the lips, the neck, the scalp – and yes, even derrières.
As a result, there have never been more skin care products out there. The crowded bath counter of my family is proof of this, and my 15 -year -old daughter is her driving force. Like many of its peers, it has developed an apparently unlimited appetite for all types of beauty products. In fact, thanks to Gens Z and Alpha, global beauty sales should reach $ 590 billion in 2028 (compared to $ 466 billion in 2023).
But, apparently, a basic routine still reigns supreme. In today’s newsletter, I will explain what Wirecutter’s beauty team has learned about skin care for months of research, tests and interviews with dermatologists. And I will share a simple regime for a healthier skin that will not break your budget.
Easy does it
This concentration on simplicity is something we have heard repeatedly during our relationships and tests.
“Simple is good,” Dr. told us. Neelam Vashi, dermatologist in Boston. “You really want to have products that hydrate, rejuvenate and feel comfortable on your skin. There is no magic cream. Magic is just finding the routine and stick to it.”
The more goops foreign sounds, the more you risk irritating the skin – the more it becomes difficult to discern exactly which ingredient could have triggered a reaction.
In general, products with short lists of ingredients are preferable. And scan the lists of ingredients to verify that your products have components that aim at specific skin care problems, sometimes called active ingredients.
On the labels of moisturizers and body lotions, for example, looks for additives that pull water such as glycerin, squalane, hyaluronic acid and ceramids. When you buy a retinoid serum, look for retinol or retinal (retinal aka). And if you need an exfoliating to improve consistency and tone, look for glycolic and lactic acids that blow the skin or salicylic acid that fight the oil.
If a product is a real deal, don’t take it for granted that it will seem a compromise: many of our choices are lower than $ 20. Not even being cheated by imaginative packaging. Some truly surprising products reside in not very bright tanks and tubes (and the sub -transformers can hide in luxury bottles).
Four steps for skin care
It doesn’t take long to maintain healthy skin. Here is a routine that you can follow that requires only a few products and a few minutes of the day.

Clean. At night, remove dirt, sweat, dirty and makeup. Clean skin allows a better absorption of moisturizing serums and creams. When you wake up, you can wash again to remove residual products for skin care. (If you have dry or sensitive skin, try rinse rather than complete cleaning.)

Deal with. In the morning, use an antioxidant serum such as vitamin C to compensate for damage from sunlight and pollution. On alternating nights, he uses an exfoliating of acid hydroxy, which empties the cells of the dead skin or retinoid, which helps to minimize the thin lines and other signs of aging, acne and oleosity.

Moisturize. Apply the cream or lotion on the face and body both in the morning and at night. Massage the product in slightly humid skin will increase its effectiveness.

Protect. Every morning – rain or shine, clear or cloudy, on the beach or in the basement – wears sun protection.

One of the things you have done, which is a red line for most journalists, is that you presented yourself in one of the gatherings of Donald Trump before the elections and you have formally supported it. Once you support a politician on stage during an event, I don’t think you can be reasonably called more independent or do you see it differently?
I think I can do it. I disagree with this because I can still hit Trump and do. There is no doubt that I had my prejudice on Trump and I went through a line that I had never crossed before, and I would never have crossed when I was still a direct news, never. It is precisely this strange new hybrid lane in which I also made myself a chance in my mind, that I even allowed myself to consider to say yes to the invitation.
I think many people have seen you support Trump like an ankle – as essentially going where power is located.

I hope so. This was my goal in helping him, especially with women. I wanted to look at them in the eye, in a figurative sense, and say: trust me. You know that I am pro-donna and you know that I have expressed doubts about him in the past, on some of the choices he made when he was to face women, but there is no other choice for women in these elections.
