Atmosphere checks: The Golf League of tomorrow, today
Golf was simulated, but the tension was real.
The championship match of the first season of TGL (TMRW Golf League) was Tuesday evening. The League was running for two and a half months, with teams of PGA Tour players who hit the blows in a giant simulator screen and then putting and chipped around a green customizable in their internal arena in the south of Florida. The technology is incredible even after seeing it work for weeks.
For most of the season, however, the stakes seemed lacking. The players gave up after hitting the bad blows. They talked about light garbage. They made friendly interviews with Espn Sideline Marty Smith’s journalist. If someone worried a lot about the result, they did not show it. This changed when Billy Horschel, n. 20 player in the world, emptied an 18 -foot Electrifying that created the return of the Golf club in Atlanta Drive to the New York Golf Club in the championship match. Horschel became Berserk, as well as the crowd. It was a clean moment.
Was the first season of TGL a success? Many people in golf ask this question and many answer “yes”. A more fundamental question, however: what AND Success for TGL?
- TV assessments? They were solid. About a million people looked at the highest points and the championship easily beat what a typical study program would have provided a Tuesday.
- A Great Golf show? Eh, your mileage can vary.
- A way to reward Pga Tour players? Absolutely. Atlanta players gained $ 2.25 million each. A nice carrot for the tour players who did not leave for Liv.
- A Tigre Woods platform? Not exactly. The league co-founder did not play well in his games, and then broke a season of Achilles in the middle of the season. Oof.
- Takepting moments? Some, yes, led by Horschel’s Putt butter Tuesday.
- “Grow the game”? Too soon to say. Has Tgl created new golf fans?
I thought I would just ask Atletico Andrew Marchand Senior Publishing Senior: Tgl and his television partner have each obtained what they wanted?
💬 Tgl and Espn were electrified from the first season. Where it goes – potentially without tiger and with the new smell of car disappeared – it remains to be seen. However, when you look at the numbers they put and the buzz she received, it was a precise success. It is difficult to find cheap spectators, with controlled costs, in these days, so this has certainly been a victory.
