The collapse of the roof of the Night Club of the Dominican Republic kills dozen

The Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic has published on X that the former MLB Octavio Dotel launcher had died, while Reuters reported that another former MLB player, Tony Blanco, was killed, citing local authorities.

Almost 12 hours after the collapse, the rescue crews were still bringing out the survivors of debris. On the scene, the firefighters removed broken concrete blocks and saws of wood saw to use them to lift heavy debris while the noise of the Trapani that breaks through concrete filled the air.

The emergency director Mendez said that the rescue crews gave priority to three areas of the club: “We are listening to some sounds”.

The disaster struck during a concert by the famous merengue singer Ruby Perez, who was among those killed, according to his manager and family members near the site.

His manager, Enrique Paulino, whose shirt had splashed in blood, told journalists on the scene that the concert started just before midnight on Tuesday (Wednesday Aest), with the roof that collapsed almost an hour later, killing the group’s saxophonist.

“It happened so quickly. I managed to throw myself in a corner,” he said, adding that he initially thought it was an earthquake.

It was not immediately clear what caused the collapse of the roof or when the jet set building was last inspected. The club issued a statement by saying that it was collaborating with the authorities. “The loss of human life leaves us in a state of deep pain and dismay,” he said.

The prosecutor Rosalba Ramos said to the CDN television station that, although “everyone wants to know” what happened, the authorities were still focused on the search for survivors. An improvised morgue was set up near the club and more than 120 people have lined up to give blood in two different centers.

Manuel Olivo Ortiz, whose son participated in the concert but did not return home, was among those who waited anxiously outside the club. “We are clinging only to God,” said Olivo.

Waiting for the word there was Massiel Cuevas, a godmother of 22 -year -old Darlenys Batista. “I’m waiting for her. It’s there, I know she is in there,” Cuevas said, stopped in her belief that Batista would be pulled out live.

Abinader, the president, published on X that all the rescue agencies were “working tirelessly” to help the affected people.

“We deeply remember the tragedy that occurred at the jet nightclub.

Abinader arrived on the spot and embraced those who were looking for friends and family, some with tears who poured along their faces. “We have faith in God that we will save even more people lives,” he told journalists.

An official with a megaphone was out of the club, imploring the large crowd who had gathered to look for friends and relatives to give space to ambulances.

“You have to cooperate with the authorities, please,” he said. “We are removing people.”

In a hospital where the wounded were taken, an official remained out of reading aloud the names of the survivors while a crowd gathered and screamed the names of their loved ones.

In the meantime, dozens of people gathered at the National Institute of Forensic Pathology, which projected images of the victims so that their loved ones could identify them.
