The Filipino volcano spits the ash plume in the sky, pushing the school closures
An irregular Filipino volcano broke out briefly on Tuesday on a central island, sending a 4 -kilometer celery plume (2.4 miles) in the sky and forcing the authorities to suspend school lessons in four villages due to Ashfall, the officials said.
There have been no reports of injuries or damage from the last eruption of Mount Kanlaon after the dawn that lasted more than an hour and scattered ash in at least four agricultural villages in the south -west of the volcano on the island of Negros, said the Filipino Institute of Vulcanology and Sismology.
Kanlaon broke out for the last time in December, causing the evacuation of thousands of inhabitants of the village, many of whom remained in the emergency shelters Tuesday while the volcano continued to show signs of finished, said the civil defense office.
The head volcanologist of the Philippines Teresito Bacolcolcol told the Associated Press that there were no other key signs of restrictions, such as a peak in volcanic earthquakes, which pushed the warning on Kanlaon to be raised from current level 3, which means a “high level of volcanic disorders”. The highest warning, level 5, means that a “dangerous eruption” is underway.
“The possibility of a bigger eruption is always there,” Bacolo said, urging people to remain vigilant and stay away from a dangerous area of 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) around Kanlaon.
The 2,435 meter volcano (7,988 feet) is one of the 24 most active volcanoes in the country. In 1996, three hikers were killed near the peak and many others were subsequently saved when Kanlaon broke out without notice, the officials said.
The Philippines are in the so -called Pacific “Ring of Fire”, a region subject to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The archipelago is also thrown by about 20 typhoons and storms per year, making it one of the countries most at risk of catastrophes in the world.
